Privacy Policy for Immersion
Last updated: 2 November 2026
Immersion ("Immersion", "we", "us") is a set of language-learning apps available at https://useimmersion.app. It is operated by Aminat Abiola Olatunji, Berck-sur-Mer, France, who is the data controller for the personal data described here. You can reach us at privacy@useimmersion.app.
This policy explains what we collect, why, who handles it, how long we keep it, and what rights you have.
1. What we collect
Account details. When you sign up, we collect your email address and a password (which we never see in readable form). You can also sign in with a one-time code we email you. If you choose "Continue with Google", we receive your name, email address and profile photo from Google. We receive nothing else from your Google account.
Listening activity. To show your progress and streaks, we record, for each app you use and each day, how many seconds you listened or practised. This is linked to your account.
Technical data. Our hosting and security providers process your IP address, browser type and request logs when you use the site. We use this to deliver the site, keep it secure and prevent abuse.
Messages you send us. If you email hello@useimmersion.app, support@useimmersion.app or privacy@useimmersion.app, we keep your message and our reply so we can help you.
Founding Immersers. If you join the waitlist or apply, we collect your email address and your answers to manage the programme, on the basis of your consent. We keep them until the programme ends or you ask us to delete them, and you can withdraw at any time. To limit spam, we also process a hashed version of your IP address.
On your device. The apps store a small amount of data in your browser (for example your listening log, notes, language and sign-in session) so they work as you left them. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not use third-party analytics.
2. Why we use it, and our legal basis
| What we do | Why | Legal basis (GDPR) |
|---|---|---|
| Create and run your account, sign you in | To provide Immersion to you | Contract |
| Save and show your listening time and streaks | To provide the features you asked for | Contract |
| Keep the service secure and fix problems | To protect you and the service | Legitimate interests |
| Answer your emails | To support you | Legitimate interests |
| Send you product or reminder emails | Only if you opt in, and you can stop at any time | Consent |
We do not sell your personal data. We do not use it for advertising. We do not use it to make automated decisions that affect you.
3. Who handles your data
We use a small number of service providers who process data only on our instructions:
- Clerk handles sign-up, sign-in and your account details.
- Cloudflare hosts our database and API (your listening activity), manages our domain and routes the email sent to our addresses.
- Netlify hosts the website you load in your browser.
- Google receives the email we forward from our contact addresses to our mailbox, and provides "Continue with Google" sign-in if you use it.
- Google also stores waitlist entries and applications in a Google Sheet. Netlify keeps a temporary backup if that sheet can't be reached.
- Google Fonts supplies the site's fonts, and Radio Browser supplies station information. Both receive your IP address when your browser contacts them.
Radio streams play directly from the broadcasters' own servers. When you listen, the broadcaster can see your IP address, as with any website or app. We do not control their practices, so check their policies if this matters to you.
Some of these providers are based outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Where that happens, transfers rely on safeguards the law recognises, such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or Standard Contractual Clauses.
4. Google user data
If you sign in with Google, Immersion uses your name, email address and profile photo only to create and identify your account. We do not share this information with anyone except the providers listed above, we do not sell it, and we do not use it for advertising. Immersion's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
5. How long we keep it
We keep your account details and listening activity for as long as you have an account. If you delete your account or ask us to, we delete this data within 30 days, except where the law requires us to keep something. Emails you send us are kept for up to 24 months after the conversation ends.
6. Your rights
You can ask us to access, correct, delete, restrict or export your personal data, to object to how we use it, and to withdraw any consent you gave. Email privacy@useimmersion.app and we will reply within one month. You also have the right to complain to the French data protection authority, the CNIL (cnil.fr), or the authority in your own country.
7. Children
Immersion is not directed at children under 15. If you are under 15, please do not create an account without the consent of a parent or guardian. If we learn that we hold data from a child without that consent, we will delete it.
8. Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Passwords are handled by Clerk and are never stored by us in readable form. No online service is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your data safe and will tell you and the authorities if a breach affects you, as the law requires.
9. Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date above and, for significant changes, tell signed-in users by email or in the app.
10. Contact
Privacy questions or requests: privacy@useimmersion.app. General questions: hello@useimmersion.app.
